All repair and maintenance work is considered from a setup to a complete re-build. We no longer offer a re-stringing service and we do not do refinishes. If its a brand new guitar in need of a tweak, a favourite couch guitar looking for some TLC, a vintage classic or your very first banger thats been relegated to the cupboard for years; it will be cared for and treated with the upmost care and attention to detail and we will maximise its potential.

There are two of us now, initial contact is via email and Ian will advise a time to book or put you in touch with Isaac. We share the shop and work together but we are separate businesses.

Be sure to follow the workshop instagram or just go for a browse for a look at previous work. Email any questions and queries if you are unsure what the issue is or would like further information.

What is a set up?

There are different schools of thought for what a set up is so this is what a ‘set up’ covers in The Guitar Workshop.

What this costs. £50 plus strings.

What this includes. Action, intonation, tuning issues (will not stay in tune, will not get in tune), nut issues, truss rod adjustments, loose things, tight things, crackly things, bolt on neck angle adjustments and a whole bunch of other stuff.

What this does not include. Fretting issues, high frets, low frets, lifting frets, old attic guitars, guitars that have been idle for a long period of time, tired and dirty instruments. These instruments would need to be appraised and join the queue.

Fret Dress and set up

What this includes. Dressing the frets will take care of all fret issues as long as there is enough fret height to work with. Worn and pitted frets, loose frets, high/uneven frets. sharp fret ends, strings slipping of the board. If the frets have been dressed previously or if the pitting is too deep then a refret may be required. If any frets are damaged and need replaced then a fret dress will be required along with a ‘per fret’ surcharge with a maximum of 6 frets.

What this costs. A fret dress is £120 including strings. Replacement fret surcharge is from £15 per fret; maximium of six frets.

Refretting

What This includes. When the frets are worn out, too low to be dressed or the fingerboard is humped or warped or you simply want to change the style or size of fret. Pricing varies with the type of fret material, style and condition of fingerboard.

What this costs. All refrets starts at £320. Stainless steel frets add £40 – £80. Finger board type and condition can add to the cost if it prolongs the repair to resolve the issue. A new nut may also be required.

Neck Breaks

What this includes. Broken and split necks, severed headstocks, split headstock, chipped corners, warped necks.

What this costs. Pricing starts at £150 including set-up. Severity and style of break dictates what is required to repair to a level where the neck is strong enough to cope with the strings tension so costs can get up to £400 for the really bad ones.

Structural repairs

Instruments get dropped, knocked over, sat on, bump into things, fall from a hanger and simply crack of their own acccord or from humidity related issues. Most things can be fixed and many can sound better after. Most instruments can be taken apart and pieced back together when the damage is extreme.

What this includes. Holes, cracks, loose braces, loose binding, seprated glue joins, lifting/damaged bridges, smashed bodies, split fingerboards, dents and dings and anything that compromises the structural integrity of the instrument.

What this costs. Priced on inspection. Lacquer work can add significantly to the cost and will be outsourced to Devine Guitar Repair in some cases. Not always required and minor touch ups are done in house, savings can be made if you dont mind a visible scar.

What this costs. Customer supplied pickup fit is from £60. Acoustic pickup supply and fit depends the style and cost of the pickup.
